Are Facials Worth the Cost?

The trend in Aesthetic Medicine seems to be moving away from 'fluffy' treatments such as facials and microdermabrasion and moving towards more results oriented treatments such as medical grade Chemical Peels and Intense Pulsed Light laser treatments. Facials may make you feel relaxed and your skin may feel clean afterwards, but the jury is out as to whether these often times expensive treatments are really worthwhile? Much of a facial is cleansing, massage and possible extractions (which can lead to scarring!). Medical grade peels on the other hand gently exfoliate the top layers of dead skin and reveal fresh, new skin. They help to control excess oil production and minimize bacteria. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatments also help to brighten the skin, reduce redness from broken facial capillaries and reduce and possibly eliminate brown spots/sun damage. Chemical Peels and IPL treatments range between $125-$300 per treatment, which is comparable to a facial - but you get more bang for your buck!

Dysport - The Latest in Anti-Aging Medications!

Finally, Botox has competition! The lastest neurotoxin to hit the market is a product called Dysport, which was just FDA approved a few months ago. Dysport works similarly to Botox helping to relax lines on the face, for a smooth, rejuvenated appearance (think all of Hollywood!!). Like Botox - Dysport typically lasts for 3-4 months, but the onset of the medication is quicker, with typical patients experiencing results only 3 days after injection!! The fantastic part of products such as Dysport and Botox is that if patients start using these medications early, it will cut down on facial wrinkling later in life. Have a wedding or important event next week? Have a Dysport treatment today and be ready to show the world a rejuvenated YOU!

Natural Looking Filler Treatments

Patients always come into the office and are interested in having a dermal filler, but are concerned about being 'over filled'. There is a fine line between giving a patient a nice, natural correction versus going overboard and ending up with a chipmunk appearance. The most critical part of having a dermal filler is the consultation process. Your provider should spend ample time with you, discussing your desires and also clearly explaining to you what the treatment plan will be. You also want to go to a clinician who is not only experienced in dermal fillers, but who also carries a variety of different products. The clinical indication for each filler product is different and experienced practices will carry a variety of products. Fillers are a great way to restore lost volume, fill in lines and plump the lips. Erase the years and fill away!
